Using Hypnosis for Hope and Comfort at the End of Life
Elaine Drysdale, BA (Psychology), MD, FRCPC (Psychiatry)
Dr. Drysdale will discuss use of hypnotic language and imagery for dying patients, with content influenced by themes and imagery described by people who have had “near death experiences”. These phenomena are spiritual experiences of people who have come as close as possible to dying, often with cardiac arrest, yet survived and been able to talk about what they have experienced.
She will share examples drawn from over 30 years of experience working with patients facing life-threatening or terminal illnesses, in her work as the primary psychiatric consultant to BC Cancer and to the Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant Programme of B.C.

Hypnosis for Children & Teens: Often easier than with Adults!
Leora Kuttner, PhD (Clin. Psyc.)
Children are very receptive to Hypnosis as an approach to helping them resolve difficulties, activate their coping or reduce fears and pain. Teenagers depending on their maturity lean more towards to adult approaches that include relaxation as a component. Both children and teens appreciate an engaging and candid hypnotic style, and techniques that empowers them to use and develop their own inner resources. The younger the child the shorter, more dynamic and more playful and imaginative the hypnotic approach.
This workshop will show many video examples of children of different age and how to provide hypnosis that is effective across a range of common pediatric problems: sleep difficulties, enuresis, IVs and injections and abdominal pain and headaches.
